Shanti Sthallamu

Welcome to our world! We are an international family and when we cannot stay in our house, we offer it for vacation rentals. We passionate about environmentalism and eco-tourism in The Gambia, West Africa.

Our Place

Experience our family home in The Gambia: ecotourism and cultural tourism in a hybrid of eco-luxury and village life by the sea. Lovingly constructed over twenty years, the house is built from earth from the site. The family of the property manager grew along with the house, and they are your hosts and onsite staff. Just a few minutes' walk from the Atlantic Ocean in a residential area away from the Gambia's tourist zone, our home is furnished with traditional African textiles and souvenirs from our travels.

Accommodation

You will stay in the spacious second-floor duplex apartment.  It has two large bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom, plus two lofts, sleeping up to seven.

A loft can also be configured as an office/writing space. The elevation of the house ensures ocean breezes, views, privacy, and security. The sitting room, dining room and kitchen are open-plan.

Experience cultural and Eco tourism at Shanti Sthallamu.

Lovingly created over twenty years through collaborative efforts of the owners (US/India), the architect (Nigeria), British-Gambian artist Sue Brown and the Gambian manager, Bubacarr Colley, this is a home in which sustainable building, African arts, and the welcoming culture of the Gambia are tangible. A ten-minute walk from the Atlantic Ocean, with ocean views, this is a personal home. Indian touches, including the name of the house (‘peaceful place’, in Telugu) reflect the family history.
